Third Way has put together a compelling case for the future of clean energy. What qualifies as clean energy? Zero emissions? Nuclear energy has zero emissions. A smaller footprint? Nuclear energy has a smaller footprint especially in comparison with other clean energy sources. Energy density? Nuclear energy has the highest usable energy density of all sources known to man. Climate change has left us in dire need of clean energy alternatives. Nuclear energy may be the answer we're looking for.
Nuclear energy has for decades been the recipient of negative propaganda but in reality it is one of the safest and cleanest energy alternatives available. In fact, the amount of spent fuel produced by a single person using nuclear energy exclusively their entire life span would fit inside a typical soda can. It's the clean nature of nuclear energy that has resulted in renewed interest in spite of its long standing decrease in popularity. However, the anemic nature of nuclear energy public support not only threatened its existence in the past, it stunted its growth. It looks like that's about to change.
Our current combination of energy and environmental quandaries has resulted in newfound interest. Investors of all varieties are now looking to both new and revisited reactor technologies to come up with cleaner and safer ways of producing energy. It's becoming increasingly clear that the shutdown of nuclear plants severely undercuts our efforts to reverse any damage we've caused to the environment.
