Modular Reactors the Future of Nuclear Energy

The Department of Energy is backing NuScale Power to produce Small Modular Reactors (SMR). NuScale is using reactors designed and developed at Oregon State University. SMR's have the advantage of being cheaper, safer, and less cumbersome than the traditional first and second generation reactors from the 1960's that are still in use today.

Recent legislation in Washington D.C. has facilitated the collaboration between NuScale and DOE sites such as the Idaho National Laboratory. However, there is a need to work with the NRC on expediting the process. This would benefit the nations economic prowess and enable the US to once again lead the world in commercial nuclear technology and innovation. For more information please click on the link below.
